About the Company
Our client is a newly established, well-backed trading business headquartered in Singapore, operating in the global commodity and soft commodity space. The company is in its early build phase, offering a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment with strong financial backing and international market exposure.
The Role
We are looking for a General Manager to lead and build the business in Singapore. This is a high-impact leadership role with full responsibility across operations, trading, and commercial performance.
You will work closely with senior leadership and be entrusted to run the business on the ground — driving growth, managing teams, and owning the P&L.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership- Lead day-to-day operations across trading, compliance, and support functions
- Build and manage a high-performing team
- Establish workflows, KPIs, and reporting structures
- Drive a culture of ownership, accountability, and execution
- Oversee trading activities, including deal sourcing, structuring, and execution
- Review trade proposals, pricing, and counterparty terms
- Maintain visibility on pipelines, positions, and market trends
- Build and manage relationships with global suppliers and buyers
- Travel for sourcing, negotiations, and market development
- Take full responsibility for revenue, margins, and cost management
- Drive commercial performance and growth strategy
- Monitor financial performance and optimize capital deployment
- Ensure all counterparties pass KYC / AML checks
- Oversee documentation, contracts, and audit readiness
- Maintain compliance with applicable Singapore regulations
- Expand network across suppliers, buyers, and partners
- Identify new opportunities, markets, and product lines
- Represent the company in key business engagements
Requirements
Must Have- 8+ years’ experience in commodity or soft commodity trading
- Strong exposure to agricultural commodities (e.g. grains, edible oils, sugar, rubber, palm, cocoa, coffee, rice, etc.)
- Proven track record in P&L management
- Experience leading cross-functional teams
- Working knowledge of KYC, AML, and trade compliance
- Strong commercial mindset and deal-making capability
- Comfortable with frequent international travel
- Experience leading a trading desk or business unit (e.g. Head of Trading, GM, or similar)
- Background in building or scaling trading operations
- Familiarity with Singapore regulatory environment
- Established network across suppliers, producers, and buyers
- Additional language capabilities are an advantage where relevant to business needs
- Entrepreneurial mindset with strong ownership
- Hands-on, commercially driven, and execution-focused
- Able to operate in a fast-paced, evolving environment
- Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills
