Head of Category – International Product Development
About the role
Reporting to the CEO - International, the Head of Category (International Product Development) leads the strategy, innovation pipeline, regulatory compliance, and lifecycle management for the International business. The role ensures products are commercially competitive, technically sound, and compliant with market-specific regulations in relevant markets, particularly within the Asia-Pacific region.
What you'll be doing- Category Strategy & Product Portfolio Leadership
- Develop and execute a multi-market category strategy for relevant products
- Lead portfolio planning including innovation, renovation, and lifecycle optimisation.
- Analyse global and regional consumer, category, and competitive trends.
- Product Development & Innovation
- Lead development of new and improved formulations tailored to market needs.
- Oversee stage-gate processes from concept through to commercial launch.
- Ensure product feasibility, nutritional compliance, cost competitiveness, and manufacturability.
- Regulatory Affairs & Compliance Oversight
- Oversee regulatory approvals, product claims, documentation, and label compliance.
- Monitor country-specific regulatory changes and proactively manage impacts.
- Ensure strong governance, specification control, and risk management.
- Market & Commercial Collaboration
- Work with in-market teams to understand local consumer needs and category insights.
- Support customer and distributor engagements, including joint business planning.
- Align pricing, positioning, pack formats, and claims to market requirements.
- External Manufacturing & Supply Chain Alignment
- Partner with manufacturing suppliers to ensure product quality, consistency, and compliance.
- Support technical assessments, trial processes, and improvement initiatives.
- Integrate supply chain considerations into product portfolio and innovation decisions
- Leadership, Governance & Stakeholder Management
- Lead, mentor, and develop the Regulatory & Compliance Specialist.
- Represent the category in executive and market strategic forums.
- Establish structured decision-making and category governance processes.
- Stakeholder Liaison
- Internal stakeholders including Executive Leadership Team (ELT), Quality & Food Safety, Supply Chain & Operations, Procurement & Strategic Sourcing, Marketing & Brand teams, Sales & Business Development teams, Legal & Corporate Affairs and Product Development & Engineering Team.
- Manufacturing partners and co-packers
- Distributors and key export partners
- Major customers (retailers, pharmacy channels, e-commerce platforms)
- Regulatory and food safety authorities across the region
- Packaging and ingredient suppliers
- Third-party testing laboratories and certification bodies (HACCP, ISO, nutritional & microbiological testing)
- Research bodies, science institutes, and industry associations
- Degree in Food Science, Nutrition, Dairy Science, Regulatory Affairs, or Business.
- 8–12+ years’ experience in FMCG dairy, nutritional powders, or highly regulated food categories.
- Strong understanding of APAC regulatory environments (especially China, Australia, Singapore, ASEAN).
- Experience with external manufacturing models and powder processing technologies.
- Proven ability to lead innovation pipelines and navigate complex regulatory landscapes.
