Product Development Chemist

For: SDC Technologies Asia Pacific, Pte. Ltd.

This position will support Hard Coat and Anti Fog Product Development projects to build a commercially viable functional coating product pipeline in alignment with SDC business goals.

Responsibilities:

• Lead or assist projects in product development milestone attainment including competitive benchmarking, product formulation and optimization, establishment of manufacturing control plan for scale-up and production
• Screen and qualify alternative key raw materials to facilitate sustained supply of functional coating and film products
• Generate ideas and proofs-of-concept for new technologies for proprietary product and intellectual property development
• Leverage new and innovative building blocks to accelerate development of proprietary value-added functional coatings
• Provide support for development of new equipment, formulas, processes, and methods for solution of technical problems.
• Provide investigation support on newly developed and scale-up manufactured products to improve quality by research into composition, structure, properties, relationships, and reactions of matter
• Confer with Vendors, Scientists and Engineers regarding product development
• Prepare standards and specifications for processes, instruments, products and tests
• Document and communicate effectively internally with cross-functional teams

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or related field and minimum two years Coatings and Specialty Chemicals industry experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Familiarity with a variety of Chemical Coatings Industry’s concepts, practices, and procedures
• Stay current with outside growth of technology, including new coating building blocks and processes
• Highly self-motivated with good presentation skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Power Point, and Excel
• Willing to work at Tuas South
