Assistant Director, Project Management (Healthcare)
About the Role
We are seeking a seasoned infrastructure professional to lead the technical oversight of a major healthcare development project. This role will operate at the intersection of clinical requirements, construction delivery, and public sector governance, ensuring that the project is delivered in accordance with approved design intent, technical specifications, and master programme.
You will serve as the key technical advisor, working closely with developers, consultants, contractors, and internal stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of a complex healthcare facility.
Key Responsibilities- Design, Construction & Handover Management
- Lead the end-to-end project lifecycle across design, construction, and post-construction phases
- Ensure all works are delivered in accordance with approved design intent, technical specifications, and master programme
- Oversee the translation of clinical requirements into engineering and architectural solutions, including MEP systems and specialised healthcare infrastructure (e.g. medical gas, radiation shielding, infection control systems)
- Monitor site progress, identify technical risks, and implement mitigation strategies to safeguard project timelines
- Review design submissions, milestone reports, and technical documentation to ensure accuracy, compliance, and audit readiness
- Lead testing, commissioning, and handover processes, including joint inspections and defects management to ensure operational readiness
- Project & Contract Management
- Co-manage the overall project programme, tracking milestones, risks, and deliverables
- Lead project governance processes, ensuring proper documentation, approvals, and compliance with public sector frameworks
- Oversee budget planning, capital submissions, and project variations with strong technical justification
- Administer contracts in accordance with relevant government frameworks, including management of variations, claims, and extensions of time
- Stakeholder Management
- Lead requirements gathering across clinical users, consultants, contractors, and operational stakeholders
- Facilitate alignment of functional design, medical equipment integration, and operational workflows
- Act as the key technical representative in discussions with developers and project partners
- Drive cross-functional coordination to ensure requirements are captured early and delivered effectively
- Technical Advisory
- Provide expert guidance to senior leadership on design, buildability, compliance, and healthcare planning standards
- Keep abreast of emerging trends in healthcare infrastructure, including smart facilities, sustainable design, and patient-centric environments
- Contribute to strategic planning and continuous improvement of healthcare development initiatives
- Degree in Architecture, Civil/Structural, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline
- Proven track record in delivering large-scale infrastructure projects from design through to completion (healthcare projects preferred)
- Strong working knowledge of public sector construction contracts (e.g. PSSCOC), capital funding frameworks, BCA regulations, and healthcare infrastructure standards
- Proven experience in contract administration, including managing variations, claims, and extensions of time within government or equivalent contract frameworks
- Experience managing contracts, including variations, claims, and extensions of time
- Familiarity with healthcare infrastructure planning, medical equipment integration, and capital project processes is advantageous
- Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence across clinical, technical, and government stakeholders
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with experience engaging senior leadership
