Product Development Specialist

About the Role

Allinton Engineering & Trading Pte Ltd is looking for a Product Development Specialist to join our team and work directly under the CEO in a focused product development function.

This role is suited for someone who understands the Singapore industrial market and can identify commercially viable product opportunities. The successful candidate must be capable of conducting independent research, understanding customer needs, and proposing product solutions that can be successfully introduced into the market.

You will work closely with internal teams including Sales, Procurement, and Operations to ensure new product ideas are technically feasible and commercially viable.

• Monitor industry trends, customer needs, and emerging technologies across relevant industries in Singapore.
• Identify opportunities for new products or improvements to existing products.
• Engage with customers to understand operational challenges and application requirements.
• Translate market insights into actionable product development opportunities.
• Propose new product solutions or product improvements aligned with company strategy and market demand.
• Prepare full commercial product proposals including:
• Product description and technical specifications
• Market application
• Costing analysis
• Margin projection
• Competitor comparison
• Supplier sourcing options
• Launch recommendation
• Identify customer operational challenges and recommend suitable technical or product solutions.
• Lead customer technical solution cases by:
• Understanding customer problems
• Conducting product research and technical assessment
• Preparing technical proposals
• Coordinating internally with Sales, Operations, and Procurement
• Presenting solutions to customers
• Provide practical technical support to the Sales team during customer engagement.
• Participate in joint customer visits where technical explanation or product recommendations are required.
• Support sales closure through technical clarification, proposal preparation, and troubleshooting support.
• Review the company’s product catalogue to ensure it remains relevant and competitive.
• Identify opportunities to introduce new products and phase out obsolete products.
• Support ongoing product lifecycle management and catalogue optimisation.
• Conduct independent research on new products, technologies, and market opportunities.
• Evaluate product feasibility including technical suitability, cost structure, and supplier sourcing.

• Diploma or Degree in Engineering, Business, or a related discipline.
• Experience in product development, technical sales, engineering products, or industrial markets is preferred.
• Strong market awareness and commercial thinking.
• Ability to independently identify opportunities and develop practical solutions.
• Strong analytical skills, especially in costing and margin evaluation.
• Good communication and presentation skills when working with customers and internal teams.
• Self-driven and capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
